Ladispoli (Ladislao's city) derives its name from its founder, the nobleman Ladislao Odescalchi; the Odescalchis were original from Como and moved to Rome when Benedetto Odescalchi became Pope Innocent XI. It was an ancient Etruscan port (called Alsium) and preserves visible remains of its millenial past: the Etruscan necropolis of Montenori and Vaccina, the Roma villas (such as Pompeo's villa), tyhe Castellaccio dei Monteroni (Monteroni's castle - XIV century) and the Castle of Palo.
