Agropoli (city placed at the top) with its surroundings stands in a place that has been inhabited since the earliest times, as is proved by the late bronze age finds (11th-10th centuries BC) and by Greek archaic finds, that were unearthed during archaeological digging on the south-east side of the Aragonese Castle. In the early 4th century BC, Agropoli's territory was under the control of Paestum and the Lucanians, who settled there in self-sufficient farmsteads. These farm tombs have been traced back to places like Madonna del Carmine, Moio and Contrada Vecchia. It was here that a very particular...

Veduta - View

Pompeii is, probably, is the only archaeological site in the world capable of helping people understand and see the style of life in an entire ancient Roman city. In fact the catastrophic eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuvius only stopped the time in order to give back to us Pompeii as it was at daybreak of 24th August 79 a.D. Pompeii has been declared by UNESCO as World Heritage Site and was one of the stops of the Grand Tour, during the past. Stendhal commented in 1817 "It is a real pleasure to look upon such antiquity after reading so many volumes about it." The excavation work, which started...

The town's name seems to derive from the Roman person's name "Aemilius", probably a centurion to whom the surrounding farmlands were assigned. Miane is a municipality in the province of Treviso, located in a hilly area at the foot of the Alps on the border with the territories of Belluno. The main centre is divided into three main districts, Miane, Visnà and Vergoman, immersed in the intense green of a very beautiful landscape. The origins of the village date back to the period of Roman colonization, when a small settlement "pagus" was built, which depended on a "municipium" (probably the nearby...

Mogliano Veneto

The town's name, for some historians, derives from the Latin name "Mollius", with the addition of the suffix "-anus" to indicate ownership, probably from the centurion to whom the farmlands were assigned, while according to others, it comes from the word in Venetian dialect "mojo" (swamp ). Municipality in the province of Treviso, located in a flat area on the border with the territory of Venice, Mogliano Veneto area is rich in springs and streams: here flow, in fact, the rivers of Dese and Zero and an important series of channels.
